Press release 2020/23 of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin
In cooperation between the local advisory council and the Rüdersdorf Environmental Working Group (RUAK), a total of ten flower boxes have been installed on bridge railings in Rüdersdorf in recent weeks. The plants were ordered by the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin and planted by the RUAK on a voluntary basis. When selecting the plants, particular attention was paid to perennial, robust and insect-friendly plants.
The boxes were customised by the company Brederek & Joswig from Herzfelde and sponsored by the company itself, Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft Rüdersdorf eG, Augenoptik Meyer and Bäckerei & Konditorei Friedrich, among others. The local council is still looking for sponsors for two boxes at €600 each. Interested parties can contact the local councillor directly.

Unfortunately, the joy of the freshly planted boxes did not last long. Almost all the plants on the Peter Lübke Bridge were ripped out. Plants have also been stolen from the Henningsbrücke, the Kalkbrücke and the bridge over the Mühlenflies. The municipal administration will replace the stolen plants as soon as possible.
Comment on the flower boxes:
Sabine Löser, Mayor of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin:
"I would like to expressly thank the local advisory council and the RUAK for their commitment, without whose perseverance and initiative the flower boxes would never have been realised so quickly. It makes me sad to see that there are obviously always people who, driven by self-interest or pure joy in destruction, destroy what others have built in their free time to beautify the place."
Detlef Adler, head of Rüdersdorf:
"The purchase and realisation of the flower boxes involved a lot of effort from the initial idea to the final planting. At the same time, we have succeeded in making a further contribution to the beautification of Rüdersdorf, which is a real eye-catcher both from the water and from the land. I can only hope that such vandalism will not become the rule and that everyone will be able to enjoy the colourful flower boxes in the future."
