Restrictions to be expected due to road blockades in Märkisch-Oderland

Press release 1/2024 of the district of Märkisch-Oderland

Various interest groups have called for protest actions, including road blockades, for the week beginning 8 January 2024. The following gatherings have been registered for Monday.
- Seelow, roundabout from 05:00-15:00
- Lebus, roundabout from 05:30-08:30
- vehicle parade from Schulzendorf via B1 to Berlin between 04:00-17:00.

The district administration does not have any further specific information on which roads, junctions or roundabouts are to be blocked, when and for how long. We are liaising closely with the police in order to be able to pass on all reliable information immediately. Insofar as the announced protests are actually realised from Monday, extensive restrictions and obstructions to public road traffic are to be expected.

School buses: Freezing temperatures are expected. If school buses cannot run due to blockades, children will not be able to get away from the bus stops. We recommend that families talk about the possibility and coordinate with each other to prevent children from being left alone in the cold.

Waste disposal: If the waste disposal vehicles are blocked, it may not be possible to empty waste bins on the same day. Nevertheless, put the waste bins out for collection according to the regular schedule. If disposal does not take place, leave the bin on the street. The waste disposal company will then endeavour to empty the bin as soon as possible.

Emergency services and fire brigade: In various announcements by interest groups, it was emphasised that they did not want to hinder the emergency services during the protest week. Whether this will succeed remains to be seen.
