Press release 2020/24 of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin
Over the next two weeks, the municipal representatives of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin want to set the course for the future of the Martin Andersen Nexö cultural centre in Rüdersdorf. To this end, two special meetings of the municipal council have been scheduled for 15 and 22 June 2020, both at 6.30 pm in the auditorium of the Rüdersdorf primary and secondary school.
In the first special meeting on 15 June, the Managing Director of Museums- und Kultur GmbH Rüdersdorf, Prof. Dr. Frank Schaal, will first present his visions and utilisation concepts for the GmbH with its three units Museumspark, Kulturhaus and former Bergschreiberamt.
Following this, a fundamental debate on the future of the Kulturhaus will be held at the request of the municipal representatives. The listed building, which is more than 60 years old, is one of the few cultural centres of its time to have been preserved in its original condition. Nevertheless, it urgently needs to be refurbished in line with fire safety and heritage requirements and is a prerequisite under building regulations for its continued use. Although the approval of funding is in prospect, the personal contribution and the organisational effort are considerable. Other investment measures would have to take a back seat. The municipal council would like to discuss options and scenarios as to how the building can be renovated by the municipality or a third party and quickly put back into use. The question of follow-up costs, general use and the sponsorship of the outstanding monument are also likely to play a role in the debate.
After a week of deliberation and reflection, a decision in principle is to be made by the municipal representatives on 22 June 2020.
Both meetings are open to the public.
