Municipality welcomes the basic direction of the draft mineral waste sub-plan

Press release 2023/04 of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin

The municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin has submitted a statement on the draft update of the Waste Management Plan for the State of Brandenburg (AWP), sub-plan for mineral waste, as a public authority.

In its statement, the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin particularly welcomes the aim of the state of Brandenburg "not to authorise any class 0 landfills in principle" (p. 30 of the state's draft) and, for these reasons, not to present any future need for class 0 landfills. The municipality's statement goes on to say that a high supply and the construction of further landfills would send the wrong signal in favour of waste avoidance and against the trend towards reuse and recycling.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Climate Protection of the State of Brandenburg (MLUK), which is in charge of the project, is encouraged to accept land-use plans of the municipalities as a reason for excluding the construction of a landfill, or at least to take them into account as a decisive criterion for consideration when processing landfill applications.

In addition to other minor points, the statement points out that, in view of the applications currently in the process, it is desirable to adopt resolutions quickly in order to create clarity for these applications.
