Press release 2023/43 of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin
At its meeting on 20 December 2023, the municipal council of the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin approved the municipal budget for 2024 with one abstention. This is the second time in the last 10 years since 2016 that the budget has been approved on time for the following year and provisional budget management has been avoided.
With a volume of around 34 million euros, the operating budget is balanced and, according to current plans, shows a slight surplus of around 5,000 euros.
The municipality is planning investments totalling around 9 million euros in 2024, including the renovation of the cultural centre, the further expansion of Waldstraße, the construction of the cycle path between Herzfelde and Rüdersdorf, the planning for the construction of an after-school care centre in the district of Hennickendorf, the final invoice for the daycare centre currently under construction in Rüdersdorf, the expansion of Friedensstraße with adapted drainage in the area and many smaller investment projects.
Mayor Sabine Löser explains: "I am delighted that we were able to adopt a balanced budget at an early stage thanks to the good and trusting cooperation with our municipal council. This means we can get started with the key projects for our municipality right away in the new year and not lose any time. The fact that we have once again succeeded in presenting a balanced budget is also a sign of our resilient business location and the clever budgeting of our treasury."
The budget that has now been presented is the municipality's first financial plan that has been drawn up under the complete leadership of Nico Nolte, who has been the treasurer since the beginning of the year. There have also been some methodological adjustments, as Nolte explains: "We have parted with some investment projects that were planned years ago and have not yet been started, or cancelled the funds previously tied to them if no realisation of these projects is foreseeable in the coming years. We have thus succeeded in bringing more clarity to the budget and clearing the way for important new investments." The budget was discussed several times in the political committees after the political summer break. Mr Nolte continued: "I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the specialist committees, in particular the Economic and Financial Committee, which took the lead, for the constructive debates over the last few months. I would also like to thank the entire team in the treasury department, who have contributed over the last few months to ensuring that we have now been able to get a future-proof budget off the ground."
