Since mid-2013, the Brückenstraße / Friedrich-Engels-Ring residential area has been receiving funding from the federal-state programme "Socially Integrative City - Investment in the Neighbourhood". The federal government, the state of Brandenburg and the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin are investing equal amounts of funding to further develop the large housing estate from the early 1980s with offers for a more pleasant, neighbourly coexistence. This also includes the design of the open and green spaces.
The first construction project is to transform the open space owned by WBG Rüdersdorf in front of the Crazy House youth club into a play and exercise area. An ideas workshop with children took place in December 2013 under expert supervision. After a site inspection and the collection of ideas, models of how the children envisage the redesign were created. In particular, they would like to see a design that takes into account the themes of movement, climbing, tranquillity and water.
In a participatory process, planners have now been selected by the steering group for the "Socially Integrative City" programme to further develop and concretise the existing ideas with the children and residents. A fundamental redesign with additional pathways and greenery is planned.
It is important to the planners to involve the residents of the neighbouring residential buildings in the development process at an early stage. Even though the area is primarily intended for use by children, the residents are an important factor in the success of the project. For example, they could take on tree sponsorships and thus help to ensure that the area remains beautiful in the long term.
Workshops with children will take place from September. The events will take place in the area itself. In bad weather, they will take place in the "Crazy House". Young and young-at-heart are cordially invited to participate in the design!
The following events are planned:
o 08 September 18:00 to 20:30 Citizen information
o 09 September 15:00 to 17:30 1st workshop for children
o 16 September 15:00 to 17:30 2nd workshop for children
o 08 October from 16:00 Small dialogue between the generations
o 21 October 16:00 to 17:30 Presentation of the design for children
o 21 October 18:00 to 19:30 Presentation of the design for all interested parties
o from 28 October hands-on activity
The construction of the movement and recreational elements made from a variety of materials will then take place in stages. Due to the winter break, construction is therefore not expected to be completed until spring 2015.
stadt.menschen.berlin has been commissioned with the realisation (klikar@stadt-menschen-berlin.de, 030/89735631). Frank von Bargen, landscape architect, is responsible for the planning. The organiser is the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin.
