New Year's greetings from the mayor

Dear citizens,

At the turn of the year, we not only start a new year together, but also a new decade. What will it bring us? More contentment or more trouble?

I won't let you in on a secret when I say: a lot of it is in our own hands! Of course, we will face external pressures that we cannot change. But often it's not the circumstances that make life difficult for us, but our own personal view of things. Let's tackle the matter, let's change our attitude! Let's try it together!

"Should I really do it, become mayor?" I asked myself when many of you approached me and encouraged me to do so. I am a civil engineer with life experience, including in the town hall and community life. I love my home town with all its special features. But is that enough? Will I be able to please everyone? That's what people would prefer and what is expected anyway. "What am I paying taxes for?" I hear so often.

I now realise that it's not possible to please everyone. Today, the wishes and concerns of each and every one of us are too individual. The major problems that affected many of us in post-war or crisis times - housing shortages, unemployment, poor medical care and a lack of supplies, for example - are no longer relevant for most of us today. - are no longer relevant for most of us. They have been replaced by the individual concerns of each and every one of us. They are the most important for each individual. As a result, there are many and very different ones. What can we do? Even a new mayor cannot possibly fulfil every wish. On closer inspection, everyone realises that. So I have to prioritise and do first what are duties or what will benefit many of us.

But I can listen and encourage people to get involved themselves, and I would also advise my town hall team to do the same. We can point out ways to help ourselves sometimes and bring like-minded people together. This is another way we can make a difference. After all, those who are worried or annoyed often know best what needs to be improved. Together with my colleagues, I want to pave the way and make things possible so that you can help yourself. And by doing things, by organising things for yourself and others, your zest for life automatically grows. Because everyone wants to make a difference in their own personal way. Something that others appreciate. Be it in the family or when people get together and organise, build, plan or plant something together. In the neighbourhood, in a club, among friends.

I wish you the clarity to recognise what is worth tackling in the new year, the strength to start it courageously, to find joy and like-minded people and, of course, success and satisfaction!

With this in mind, let's start a happy, healthy and successful new decade together!
