After being elected by the members of the municipal council and sworn in at the local court, three new arbitrators started work at the beginning of 2021.
Chairwoman Sabine Sissis-Peisker is the point of contact for neighbourhood disputes and other conflicts, as are her deputies Silke Krause and Janine Antoniak.
The task of the arbitration board is to mediate impartially and look for compromises before a dispute ends up in court and usually results in a long and cost-intensive process.
"Conflicts between neighbours occur time and again when living together. Sometimes it's the tree or the fence that you feel disturbed by, sometimes it's the constant parties. We want to be a point of contact in good time so that this doesn't turn into a protracted and unpleasant dispute for everyone involved. We offer our help by guiding discussions, working out compromises with the parties and finding an amicable solution that everyone feels is a win-win situation," say the arbitrators.
The arbitration board is responsible for neighbourly disputes as well as smaller property disputes. The Arbitration Board is also responsible for breaches of honour and minor offences.
