Special Olympics 2023 - Kick-off event on 17 May 2022 on inclusion and the Host Town Programme in Rüdersdorf

Press release 2022/18 of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin

The Rüdersdorfer Ruderverein Kalkberge e.V. and the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin jointly invite you to the kick-off event Inclusion and Host Town Programme in Rüdersdorf on 17 May 2022 at 6.00 pm in the club room of the Rüdersdorfer Ruderverein Kalkberge e.V., Seestr. 13 in 15562 Rüdersdorf bei Berlin.
Next year, the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin will be the host town for the Special Olympics World Games Berlin - the world's largest sporting event for people with intellectual and multiple disabilities. A delegation of athletes and their accompanying team will be welcomed and accommodated in the municipality from 12 to 15 June 2023. The aim is not only to familiarise the delegation with the country and its people over the next year, but also to raise awareness and promote inclusion in the host communities in general. The aim is to sustainably improve access to participation in sports and social life.
The organisers want to engage in dialogue with clubs, volunteers, social organisations and projects and many others and discuss topics such as how the delegation will be appropriately received in the coming year and how to make it easier for people with disabilities to interact and access culture, sport and leisure in the long term.
The event is divided into two parts. The first hour will focus on the topic of "Inclusion in the leisure sector". Here, the Rüdersdorfer Ruderverein Kalkberge e.V. and the Wiesenzirkus Bunterhund will report on their experiences. The following questions will be examined:

  • What does disability actually mean?
  • What does this mean for us as an organisation when we open up to people with disabilities?
  • What advantages does this bring us?
  • What do we need to consider?
  • What funding opportunities are there?

The second part deals specifically with the Host Town Programme:

  • What are the next steps?
  • What is expected of us as a community?
  • How can interested parties get involved?
  • Presentation of the inclusive "Easy Language" project

Afterwards there will be the opportunity to exchange ideas. Registration is not necessary.
