In 1990, 3 October was designated a public holiday as the Day of German Unity in Article 2 (2) of the Unification Treaty. Accordingly, it is the German bank holidays and commemorates the coming into effect of the accession of the German Democratic Republic to the Federal Republic of Germany and the completion of German reunification on 3 October 1990.
For this reason, public buildings all over Germany, including the Rüdersdorf town hall, are being flagged.
