The Day of the Homeland is celebrated annually in the Federal Republic of Germany. This day of remembrance is based on the Charter of German Expellees, which was proclaimed on 6 August 1950. Since then, the central kick-off event of the Federation of Expellees (BdV) for the Day of Homeland has taken place on the first Sunday in September in Berlin. This is followed by numerous regional events organised by the BdV associations.
The Day of Homeland has an official character. For this reason, in some federal states - including Brandenburg - public buildings are flagged, including Rüdersdorf town hall.
