We live in changing times. Everything is hectic and changes quickly. The funeral culture has also undergone a transformation in recent years. Cemeteries are no longer just a place of mourning. Instead, they are places of peace and relaxation. For some, it may feel unfamiliar to take a walk through the cemetery and soak up the silence, for others it has become the norm. We want to fulfil the wishes of our citizens by making some changes to the design of our cemeteries. As a result, our cemeteries will increasingly take on the character of a park in the near future. Our newly created grave types have also been included in the newly adopted cemetery regulations.
Sternenkindergemeinschaftsanlage
The loss of a child is particularly difficult. The desire to have a place to remember and mourn is so important, especially at this difficult time. As a community, we want to stand by the parents after such a stroke of fate. We have therefore decided in favour of a communal place of remembrance, a community star-child facility. Our first Star Children's Memorial will be located at the Rüdersdorf-Schulzenhöhe cemetery.
The memorial is to be set up on a cemetery wall. It is a semi-anonymous communal facility where both coffin burials and urn burials are possible. This facility is for children who died before, during or soon after birth (up to a maximum of 6 months). There will be a memorial plaque in the form of a star for each child, engraved with their first name and year of birth. Immediately in front of the burial plots, a place will be created for burial gifts brought to the child (flowers, cuddly toys, candles, etc.). There will be two burial plots, between which a path will lead to a bench. Here people will have the opportunity to linger and mourn in peace.
Tree communal area
In these hectic times, more and more people are opting for the tree option. There is no obligation to care for the grave and at the same time there is a place where you can be close to the deceased.
The municipality would also like to fulfil this wish. Initially, we want to build two tree plantations for them. In future, there will be a communal tree area in the districts of Hennickendorf and Lichtenow.
This type of grave is a semi-anonymous grave in a communal urn area. These will be built in a circle around a tree. There will be a tree bench around this tree. In the second circle around this tree will be the gravesites with associated flower beds. The grave site will include a round, horizontal memorial stone, which can be engraved in accordance with the statutes or customised according to the wishes of the bereaved. In this way, we have created a type of grave that is very individual and personal and for which we as a municipality guarantee maintenance by a company.
A tender for the construction of the types of graves presented took place in December 2019. Unfortunately, we in the municipality did not receive any bids. As a result, we have taken the opportunity to organise a new tender. The deadline for applications is 11 March 2020, and we are hoping for a high level of participation from companies so that work can begin promptly.
