Rüdersdorfer Heimatfreunde e.V.

Description of the

Our field of activity is researching local history
Rüdersdorf was founded in 1235. From the very beginning, the limestone deposits in Rüdersdorf played a prominent role in the development of the town. Many important buildings in our region were constructed from Rüdersdorf limestone or with lime and later with cement from Rüdersdorf.

Mining, once the main source of income for the people of Rüdersdorf, has fundamentally changed the townscape time and again. Slag heaps, canals and industrial buildings appeared and disappeared again. The legendary Heinitzsee was also created by the mining industry and was swamped again because of it, as the miners say. Parts of the historic town centre had to make way and the inhabitants were resettled.

In the second half of the 20th century in particular, the village suffered from dust pollution that is unimaginable today. It was only when Readymix AG took over the dilapidated works that Rüdersdorf became green again and is now an industrial location, health centre and tourist attraction.

The Rüdersdorf local history enthusiasts have set themselves the goal of documenting this exciting and eventful local history in words and pictures and making it accessible to a wide audience through publications, exhibitions, lectures and guided tours.
